Sales Training: Discipline

How to Achieve The Status of Sales Guru

Do you know how to achieve the status of sales guru and do it well? The answer begins with discipline.

There are too many times the end results we seek and the actions we follow do not line up. Many people talk a good game, but they often don’t follow through. Discipline requires training and you can enhance all of this with Quid Pro Quo Sales Training.

Have you ever witnessed someone who is doing his or her job just well enough to get by? These typically are the people who loaf the most and the same ones who complain the most about where they are in their lives. The results they want to achieve and the actions they follow, especially in the area of work ethic, are in conflict with each other. Take a look at some of their activities:

  • Leaving early whenever they can
  • Making the numbers and then coasting
  • Learning and applying the minimum

These activities are just a few of the thousand things that most people are guilty of from time to time. That’s fine as long as you want to put your time in, do okay, and retire at sixty-five-years old, and live off Social Security, provided it is still around.

I have yet to meet a person who told me this was their plan. On the other hand, I rarely meet people who have a well thought out plan for success.

Have you ever met a consistently successful sales guru who didn’t follow a disciplined routine? Making it up as you go along is not a good plan. It will not take you to the destination you are seeking. A disciplined routine starts early in your career and should transcend regardless of what your future life pursuits are. Let’s face it: You can’t lift weights every now and then and and expect to have the strength you desire. The same is true with running, stretching, and every other part of the game. You have to have a plan and a disciplined routine.

You can succeed as long as you commit to a routine and will measure your progress along the way.

There are all kinds of clever sayings that make this point. You might be familiar with “Plan your work and work your plan.” One of the concepts we go into in some detail in my company’s Quid Pro Quo training courses is the importance of work ethic and working a plan. We focus on a time-tested formula that applies to all of us: Activity times Time equals Results.

This formula is universal. It works for whether you are a sales guru, an athlete or any other profession. The basic foundation is that the activities you choose to pursue and the time you spend on that activity will, in the end, determine the results you will achieve. This is a simple concept, but it is amazing how much time and energy we need to spend teaching this to people.

Need help, consider Quid Pro Quo Sales Training It will kick start the basic foundation.

There are only so many hours in a day. We must choose how we spend them wisely. If you go to the gym or try some new ways to further your skills, then you are helping yourself obtain your ultimate goal, with discipline.
